Wanda Schlein, 95, of Oelwein passed away Thursday February 10, 2022 at Oelwein Healthcare Center. Visitation will be from 4:00-6:00 PM on Thursday February 17, 2022 at the Geilenfeld-Buehner Funeral Home in Oelwein. Funeral services will begin at 10:30 AM on Friday February 18, 2022 at the funeral home. Interment will be in Grandview Cemetery at Fayette. Mildred Mary “Millie” Hofer

Mildred Mary “Millie” Hofer, 83, of Luana, Iowa died Wednesday, February 9, 2022 at Good Samaritan Society in Postville, Iowa. Mildred was born on September 8, 1938 to Joe and Emma Zobeck in Lourdes, Iowa. She attended 8 years of country school at Darrow Albion Township, north of Cresco, Iowa and later graduated from American School in Chicago, Illinois in 1963.

On January 31, 1959 Millie was united into marriage with Robert Schmitt. Two sons were born into this union. They later divorced. On October 14, 1988 Millie married Philip Hofer at their home in Postville Iowa.

Eugene (Gene) Leslie Suddendorf

Eugene (Gene) Leslie Suddendorf, 96, of Postville, Iowa passed away Saturday, February 5, 2022, at the Good Samaritan Center in Postville, Iowa. Eugene was born September 23, 1925 to Arthur Frederick and Martha Elizabeth (Montour) Suddendorf on a farm in Monona Township in Clayton County, Iowa.

Eugene was a member of St Paul Lutheran Church in Postville. He was baptized on May 9, 1926, at Pilgrim Evangelical Church in Monona. He was confirmed March 24, 1940, at St Paul Lutheran Church in Monona. He attended Evergreen Grove County School in Monona.

Dwayne Dale Moon

Dwayne Dale Moon, 91, of Luana, Iowa died Friday, January 28, 2022 at Good Samaritan Society in Postville, Iowa. Dwayne was born February 4, 1930 to Ernest and Bertha (Lienau) Moon in Monona, Iowa. He attended Evergreen Grove Country School.

On August 20, 1950, Dwayne was united in marriage with Inez Doerring at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Postville, Iowa. Together they raised four children and operated the family farm south of Luana, Iowa.

Nick Heckman, age 57, of Lawler, IA, died Friday, January 28, 2022, at the Community Memorial Hospital in Sumner.

Nick William Heckman was born December 16, 1964, in Postville, IA, the son of Leslie and Sherill (Rekow) Heckman. He grew up in Postville and, as a boy, he loved his summers at the town pool. Nick received his education in Postville, where he was involved in football and baseball, before graduating with the Class of 1983. He furthered his education at North Iowa Area Community College in Mason City, where he majored in criminal justice.

Thousand Oaks, CA – Mary Wallin passed away on November 15, 2021 in Thousand Oaks, California at the age of 86 years, after several years of declining health. Mary Elinor Dresser was born in Postville, Iowa on May 2, 1935 to Lawrence E. and Felicia G. (Palmer) Dresser. She was raised on the family farm just west of Postville and attended the Postville Schools, graduating in 1953. Following her high school graduation, she attended Iowa State College from 1953 to 1957, graduating with a Bachelor’s degree in the field of dietetics.

Nell Regina Preuss, 89, of Castalia, Iowa died Tuesday, January 11, 2022 at Copper Creek in West Union, Iowa. Nell was born April 28, 1932 to Joseph and Theresa (Schaefers) Wille in Garnavillo, Iowa. She graduated from Garnavillo Catholic School in 1950 and went to work as a telephone operator.

Sharon Lee DeSotel, 80, of Monona, Iowa died Tuesday, December 7, 2021 at Garden View Senior Community in Monona, Iowa. Sharon was born July 22, 1941 to Curtis and Anita (Bass) Wendel in Lansing, Iowa. She graduated from McGregor, High School.

On June 13, 1959, Sharon was united in marriage with Wayne DeSotel at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Monona, Iowa. Two sons were born to this union. Sharon owned and operated a craft supply business for many years. She enjoyed selling the jewelry that she made and repaired. Sharon also made over 2000 pajama bags and enjoyed playing cards.

CEDAR RAPIDS – Michael Joe Penrod, age 51, Cedar Rapids, IA lost his battle with Covid-19 on Friday, November 19, 2021 at the UnityPoint St. Luke’s Hospital surrounded by his loving family.

A visitation will be held at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home on Tuesday, November 23, 2021 from 4 to 7 PM. An inurnment service will be held at the Postville Cemetery in Postville, IA on Wednesday, November 24 at 1 PM, with Elder and brother-in-law, Andrew Webber officiating.
