Pirates return thirteen players as they open the season against Nashua-Plainfield
Veteran head coach Luke Steege is back at the helm of the Pirate Football team this fall. RJ Olsen, Zach Steffans and Bryan Mueller are assistant coaches and also work with the junior varsity. Long time Pirate coach Brad Bucknell is also a high school volunteer coach.
The Pirates have seven returners on offense. They are:
Jacob Steffans, quarterback who is 6’1” and weighs 185;
Owen Jacobson, wide receiver, 6’1”, 175;
Uvaldo Camarillo, wide receiver, 5’6”, 135;
Travis Fish, offensive line, 6’1”, 255;
Roberto Lopez, offensive line, 6’, 245 and
Cole Walch, offensive line, 5’11’, 205
The team also returns six defensive starter who are:
Nick Jacobs, defensive end;
Jacob Steffans, line backer;
Owen Jacobson, line backer;
Uvaldo Camarillo, defensive back and
Travis Fish, defensive tackle.
According to the coach, new players to watch include Gabe Loera and Robert White who both are sophomores.
Following the weekend scrimmages, Steege said, “Overall the scrimmage went well. I am happy so far with the team and hope that we continue to progress.”
The Pirates open the season at home Friday night at 7 p.m. when they play host to Nashua Plainfield on the Postville home turf.
