Janis K. Vokaty

COLUMBIA, S.C. – Janis K. Vokaty, 84, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, September 12, 2021, in Columbia, S.C. Janis was born on June 28, 1937, to Harvey and Elsa Christofferson in Postville, Iowa where she spent her youth and graduated from high school.

On October 12, 1963 Janis married Arnie Vokaty and moved to Cresco, Iowa. She was a member of the First Lutheran Church, Cresco. She worked as an administrative assistant in the Howard-Winneshiek School system while also working part time at the Cresco Public library.

In 2017, Janis moved to Columbia, S.C. to be closer to her son, Chris and granddaughter, Elliana Vokaty.

Janis brought a smile to all those she met. She had a generous heart and was always asking what she could do for others. Janis loved decorating her home, making it warm and inviting and loved her plants and flowers. She enjoyed entertaining others and spending time over a good meal with friends and family, sharing stories of her past and several good laughs.

Janis was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She adored her granddaughter Elli, and her favorite phrase was “Elli, my precious, you bring me so much joy!” Janis was always encouraging her family and telling them how proud she was of them. Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Chris and Stacie Vokaty and her granddaughter, Elliana; her sister, Joan Mork (husband Tennis).
