Donna Mae Blumhagen

Donna Mae Blumhagen, 85, of Bloomfield, Iowa passed away on June 5, 2025 at Centerville Specialty Care in Centerville, Iowa. She was born on August 13, 1939 in Decorah to Raymond B. and Julitta Christine Kleve Bushman. She married Dale Blumhagen on August 5, 1958 in Festina. The couple had a dairy farm in northeast Iowa and later south of Pulaski, Iowa for many years. They raised six children and enjoyed 52 years of marriage before divorce.
Donna graduated from cosmetology school in 1982 and worked as a cosmetologist for 40 years; most of her career was spent as owner of Cutter’s Lane on the Bloomfield Square. Donna was not one to sit around. She enjoyed gardening and taking care of her lawn – winning two “Spiffy Awards” in the same summer. Donna's laughter was contagious and she laughed a lot. She enjoyed her time with her clientele, telling stories and listening to them tell about the 'goings on' in their lives. Donna made so many dear friends throughout her career and she cherished those friendships dearly. She loved to travel with family and friends on bus trips, traveling to places like New York and Washington D.C. She even traveled to Germany, taking a train around the entire country. Spending time with family was important to her and part of that time was spent dancing to her favorite country band "Blue Majic" which consisted of four of her six children, traveling with them to their many musical gigs. Donna loved music, playing her accordion at nursing homes, and showing her competitive side, joined a women's bowling league. In her younger years, she played softball, and eventually learned to play the guitar. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
She is survived by six children, Bruce (Yulan) Blumhagen, Beth (Randy) Withrow, Brian (Teresa) Blumhagen, Brenda (Duke) Ball, Becky (David) Henderson, Brent (Angie) Blumhagen; 17 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and four siblings, Donnie Bushman, Doris Lensing, Duane (Shirley) Bushman, Dean (Cindy) Bushman.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two siblings, Darrel (Eunice) Bushman, Dolorita (Richard) Kuennen; sister-in-law, Dorothy Bushman; and brother-in-law, Bobby Lensing.
Donna’s wish was to be cremated. Visitation will begin at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 11, 2025 at the Wagler Funeral Home in Bloomfield with the family present to greet friends from 5-8:00 p.m. A private family burial will be held at a later date in Festina. A memorial has been established to the family to be designated at a later date.
