Dean William Ohloff

Dean William Ohloff, 73 of Postville, Iowa passed away Monday, June 24, 2024 at the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City, Iowa. Dean was born March 13, 1951 to William Charles and Shirley Marie (Olson) Ohloff in Postville, Iowa. He graduated from Postville High School in 1969 and attended one year at Waldorf College in Forest City, Iowa. Dean proudly joined the United States Marines, he served briefly and was medically discharged.

On August 10, 1979 Dean was united in marriage with Laurel Gericke in Don and DeElta Heins’ backyard, next to the 7th tee at Tri-City Golf Course. Three children were born to this union. For thirty-nine years, Dean worked for Hall Roberts’ Son in Postville, Iowa as a Product Resource Manager and retired in 2018. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, where he was on the church council, sang in the choir and taught 6th grade Sunday School. He served as an original member of the Postville Holy Walk Committee. February marked Dean’s 42nd year celebration of sobriety, being an inspiration to many.

Dean was instrumental in the progress of the Tri-City Golf Course improvements and renovations. He helped with the upkeep of the athletic fields at the Postville and Valley Schools and announced Postville High School Sports on KPVL radio station. Dean coached youth bowling leagues and coached Postville High School to its first State Bowling Championship in 2000. He was also active in several bowling leagues in Postville and had five - 300 games. Dean had a passion for bowling and golf and was always good for a tip or two. He also enjoyed fishing, reading westerns, and most of all spending time with his family.

Surviving Dean are his wife, Laurel Ohloff of Postville, Iowa; his three children, Aaron (Stephanie) Ohloff of Naples, Florida, Seth (Elizabeth) Ohloff of Cedar Rapids, Iowa and Arica (fiancé, Kyle Kunkel) Ohloff of Solon, Iowa; seven grandchildren, Jackson, Preston, Hudson, Emily, Jordyn, Langston, Dawson and Kyle’s daughters, Kacie and Sydney Kunkel; his siblings, Stephen (Wendy) Ohloff of Dubuque, Iowa, Daniel (Sue Kuennen) Ohloff of Postville, Iowa, Marlyn (Deb) Ohloff of Cresco, Iowa and Glen (Kathy) Ohloff of Castalia; and many nieces and nephews.

Dean was preceded in death by his parents, William and Shirley Ohloff; and one brother, Thomas Ohloff.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Thursday, June 27, 2024 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Postville, Iowa. There will also be a one hour visitation before services at the church on Friday.

Funeral Service will be at 10:30 am on Friday, June 28, 2024 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Postville, Iowa with Rev. Lynn Noel as the officiant.

Interment will follow at Postville Cemetery in Postville, Iowa.
