Mary Jean (Kamp) Reierson

Mary Jean (Kamp) Reierson, the daughter of Edward E. and Lucy C. (Eberling) Kamp, was born December 6, 1939 at their home in Bloomfield Township, Winneshiek County, near Castalia, Iowa, the youngest of four children. Mary passed away on Wednesday, June 5, 2024 at Veterans Memorial Hospital, Waukon, Iowa. She had reached the age of 84 years old.

Mary was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Postville. She attended Clermont Public School and graduated from Clermont High with the Class of 1957. She excelled in spelling, math, shorthand, and typing, always wanting to be a school teacher or work in a business office.

On July 31, 1958 she married Robert Dean Reierson, the son of Ole & Marie Reierson, of Elgin, Iowa, in the chapel at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Postville. They were blessed with one daughter, Rebecca Rae, born on March 19, 1959. As a family, they enjoyed the outdoors together, camping, boating, and snowmobiling, and also took a few trips.

In July 1957, shortly after graduation, Mary began work as a Stenographer in the office of the Fayette County Dept. of Social Welfare in the West Union Court House. She loved this job as it gave her a chance to use her office skills and also help people at the same time. She made many acquaintances along the way.

In 1969 she left the West Union office, as the family had been living in Postville since 1963, and began work as a cashier at the Interstate Power Company in Postville and later Monona office from 1970 to 1995.

In her early retirement years, she enjoyed her country home, caring for the yard, garden and flowers. She loved the outdoors, feeding the birds, caring for her cats and the horses who had the best of care, wanting for nothing. She enjoyed cooking, making candy at Christmas, especially baking cookies and muffins for the grandkids. She loved to read cookbooks and collect and try new recipes. She enjoyed watching TV, reading, listening to classic country music especially Johnny Cash and Elvis' music. She loved to see the grandkids who always seemed to liven things up a bit. Her family was very important to her.

Surviving are her husband, Robert, Postville; daughter, Rebecca (Kenneth) Meyer, Castalia; grandson, Cory (Christina) Bacon, Monona; granddaughter, Sally Bacon, Postville; great-grandchildren, Collin and Clare Bacon and Harper Bacon; step-grandchildren, Michael Meyer, Postville; Allison (Brian) Bahr, Postville; and step great-grandchildren, Hunter, Landon and Parker Meyer and Prestyn Bahr and many nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death were her parents, Edward and Lucy Kamp; her two brothers, Duane W and Donald Kamp; sister, Irene Buddenberg; brother-in-law, Rodney Buddenberg and sisters-in-law, Dolores Kamp and Doris Kamp.

Visitation will be Wednesday, June 12, 2024 from 4-7 pm at Schutte-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Postville, Iowa and one hour before services at the church on Thursday.

Funeral Service will be at 10:30 am on Thursday, June 13, 2024 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Postville, Iowa with Rev. Lynn Noel as the Officiant.

Burial will follow at Postville Cemetery, Postville, Iowa.
