Gwendolyn Marie Harris
Gwendolyn Marie Harris, 87 of Postville, Iowa passed away Wednesday, June 5, 2024 at Gundersen Health in La Crosse, Wisconsin. Gwendolyn was born December 30, 1936 to Enock and Selma (Gjefle) Mork in Monona, Iowa. She was baptized on February 18, 1937 and confirmed on April 2, 1950 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Postville, Iowa. Gwen graduated from Postville High School with the Class of 1954.
On April 13, 1956, Gwen was married to Ronald Harris. Five children were born to this union. They later divorced. For many years Gwen and Ron owned and ran The Heidelberg Supper Club, where she made her delicious potato salad and fish. After they sold the supper club, Gwen went to work at Ginger’s Catering and Good Sam’s in Postville. She was known for her banana bread with chocolate chips that she shared with her family. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church. Gwen enjoyed attending her grandchildren’s sporting events and watching the Chicago Cubs and sports on tv. She was known for her beehive hairdo and bright red lipstick. Gwen enjoyed her sweets and her beer on ice. Her favorite holiday was Halloween and she held an annual party to celebrate. She bowled from many years at Hi Way Lanes.
Surviving Gwen are four of her children, Dawn (Greg) Szabo of Clermont, Iowa, Denise (Jeff Mohs) Imoehl of Monona, Iowa, Darcy (Jay) Marlow of Oelwein, Iowa and Doug (Cathy) Harris of Nevada, Iowa; thirteen grandchildren, Kristi (Casey) Flack, Shannon (Penni) Brockway, Kari (Brian) Bohr, Kelli (Mitchell) Holthaus, Heath (Krista) Dougherty, Hayley Parr, Hannah (fiancé, Colin Bemke) Dougherty, Dillon (Leah) Imoehl, Dallas (Sabrina) Imoehl, Michael Harris, Jen (Lance) Ackerman, Mason Brown and Olivia Brown; sixteen great-grandchildren; siblings, Tennis (Joan) Mork of Waukee, Iowa, Phyllis Frieden of Waukon, Iowa, Bona (Chuck) Thorson of West Union, Iowa and Diane (Marvin) Berg of West Union, Iowa and several nieces and nephews.
Gwen was preceded in death by her son, David Harris; parents, Enock and Selma Mork; and her siblings, Don Mork, Cliff Mork, Gene Mork and Carol Buckley.
Funeral Service will be at 10:30 am with a visitation from 9:00 am until time of service on Friday, June 14, 2024 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Postville, Iowa with Rev. Lynn Noel as the officiant.
Inurnment will follow at Postville Cemetery in Postville, Iowa.
