Dorothy Ann (Duwe) Suckow
Dorothy Ann (Duwe) Suckow, 89 of Postville, Iowa passed away Monday, May 20, 2024 at Ossian Senior Hospice in Ossian, Iowa. Dorothy was born September 8, 1934 on the family farm outside Postville, Iowa to Leo Fred and Mabel (Meier) Heins. She attended Postville Community Schools.
On February 26, 1951, Dorothy was united in marriage with LeRoy Duwe at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Postville, Iowa. Four children were born to this union. LeRoy passed away on August 23, 1982. Dorothy found love again and remarried on September 12, 1987 to Raymond Suckow at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Postville, Iowa.
Throughout the years Dorothy (also lovingly known as Grandma Pug by her grandchildren) was a farmwife, worked as a clerk at Palmquist Department Store in Postville, she was the kitchen manager at Tri-City Golf Course in Luana, Iowa, she drove a school bus for Postville Community Schools for many years and she was a van driver for the Postville Good Samaritan Center. She was an accomplished seamstress having made many wedding dresses, bridesmaid dresses and prom dresses. She enjoyed knitting and supplying her family and friends with her handmade dish cloths. Dorothy was a lifetime member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Postville, a past President of WELCA, a circle leader, and a wedding coordinator. She was also a 4-H Leader for the Cherry Valley Chums, a member of the Post Franklin Study Club, Red Hat Ladies, various card clubs and PEO. She also enjoyed bowling, golfing, fishing, playing cards, gardening and attending her children’s and grandchildren’s events.
Surviving Dorothy are her husband, Raymond Suckow of Postville, Iowa; her children, Barb (Clint) Duwe-Peterson, Joey (Jolene) Duwe, Sandy (Dennis) Koenig and Cindy Schultz all of Postville, Iowa; step-children, Peggy (Brad) White of Webster City, Iowa, Susan (Randy) Mohs of Monona, Iowa, Vicki (John) Schroeder of Altoona, Iowa, Patty (Phil) Leeman of Roland, Iowa, William (Tina) Suckow of Hawkeye, Iowa, Michael Suckow of Johnston, Iowa and Penny (Tim) Vagts of West Union, Iowa; 6 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; 18 step-grandchildren, 38 step great-grandchildren and 2 step great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, Leo and Mabel Heins; husband, LeRoy Duwe; son-in-law, Stuart Schultz; and her siblings, Marilynn (Frank) Tehel, Ramona (Clarence) Everman, Don (DeElta) Heins and Inez (Ky) Kirkeberg.
A Visitation will be held from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Tuesday, May 28, 2024 at St. Paul Lutheran Church Fellowship Hall in Postville, Iowa. There will also be a one hour visitation before services at the church on Wednesday.
A Funeral Service will be at 10:30 am on Wednesday, May 29, 2024 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Postville, Iowa with Rev. Lynn Noel as the officiant.
Inurnment will follow at the Postville Cemetery in Postville, Iowa.
In lieu of flowers the family has asked that memorials be sent to St. Paul Lutheran Church in Postville, Iowa or the Tri-City Golf Club in Luana, Iowa.
Schutte-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Postville, Iowa is assisting the family with services.
