From God's Country

County fair coverage is a rite of passage for community journalists. It’s something we all have nearly every year, good bad or indifferent. It can be fun, frustrating, easy, difficult, quick or time consuming … often all in the same year.

2022 marks my 30th year of covering county fairs in one form or another. I’ve gone from the grunt picking up shows that nobody else wants to a leader setting the tone for team coverage to a solo act covering countless hours of shows and events one after the other to a partner working with others to cover the fair the best that we can.
