Postville RAGBRAI ‘Meeting’ Town
On March 8, 2022 the Postville City Council officially accepted the contract to be a RAGBRAI ‘meeting’ town on July 30, 2022. Meeting towns are the only official place support crews can meet with the riders. They tend to have more vendors and services than the normal pass-thru towns. Meeting towns are usually near the midpoint of the day, big enough to handle the extra traffic and keep the bike route in and out separate from the support vehicle route in and out.
The current understanding of the route is riders will be coming from Clayton Co, down the Gunder Road, heading up N. Lawler, and leaving town on Hwy 51. The ‘meeting spot’ for riders and support crews has not been set, but there was mention of the Fair Grounds, at the City Council meeting. Postville last hosted RAGBRAI as a pass-thru town in 2017.
The City of Postville will be receiving a stipend of $10,000 to assist with the additional costs to cover the event. Mayor Dennis Koeing chose Paula Enyart and Melissa Collum to co-chair the event and the chairs will attend an all day training session in Mason City on April 2.
