Primary election results show 35.41% of registered voters cast ballots
Primary elections were held throughout the state of Iowa last Tuesday, June 2, as Democrats and Republicans chose the candidates who will appear on the November ballot. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, voters were encouraged to vote absentee and a limited number of polling places were open.
There are currently 6713 registered voters in Allamakee County and 2377 persons voted in the primary for a 35.41% of registered voters casting a ballot. In the Republican primary 1400 ballots were cast for 58.9% and on the Democratic side 977 ballots were cast for 41.10%.
Results for each party are as follows:
United States Senator
Republican: Joni Ernst: 1219
Democrat : Michael Franken:247; Kimberly Graham: 147; Theresa Greenfield:417; Eddie J. Maura: 87; Cal Woods: 7.
Having received 49.37% of the vote, Theresa Greenfield will face Joni Ernst on the November ballot.
United States Representatives, District One
Republican: Thomas Hanson: 372 and Ashley Hinson: 957
Democrat: Abby Finkenauer: 912
Hinson will face Finkenauer in the November election.
State Senator, District 28
Republican: Mike Kimesh: 1249
Democrat: Matt Tapscott: 862
State Representative, District 56
Republican: Ann Osmundson: 1274
Democrat: Angela Reed: 859
Allamakee County Board of Supervisors
Republican: Mike Monroe: 552; Mark Reiser: 815
Democrat: Andy Kelleher: 614; Jack Knight: 305
Mark Reiser will face off against Andy Kelleher in the November election for the seat vacated by Dennis Koenig who has chosen not to seek reelection.
County Auditor
Republican: Denise Beyer: 1307
Democrat: No candidate on ballot
County Sheriff
Republican: Clark Mellick: 1325
Democrat: No candidate on the ballot
