Postville Fire Department requesting donations to update Jaws of Life

According to the Postville Volunteer Fire Department, Hurst was the first company to design the Jaws of Life and have now come a long way in improvements. They are one of the first to develop battery-operated Jaws of Life. These tools are also able to safely perform underwater in certain conditions.

The members of the Postville Volunteer Fire Dept., Inc. (now known as Frontier Fire Company) are working to upgrade their Jaws of Life equipment to improve rapid response in time of need.

The Department is looking to purchase new battery-operated cutters and spreaders. Firefighters are then able to pull equipment right off their truck and begin life saving operations as soon as a vehicle is secured and stable. This will help eliminate the need to set up a power pack, extend hydraulic hoses, and maneuver excess items.

The cost of the spreaders and cutters is approximately $28,000. The Fire Chief will complete a grant application to help offset the costs, but matching funds are required.

The Postville Volunteer Fire Department, Inc. is informing the general public and businesses and asking for assistance to complete this goal. If you have questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out to any firefighter or email postfd@neitel.net. If contributing to this special project, please make checks payable to the 501c3 charitable organization, Postville Volunteer Fire Dept., Inc.
