POSTVILLE — Parents of students entering pre-kindergarten through sixth-grade will have the chance to participate in a new Meet the Teachers Day Friday (Aug. 19) from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Cora B. Darling Elementary Principal Jenny Schutte said in a letter to parents that the conferences are an opportunity for parents to talk about their children so that teachers “can help them have a successful year.”

Parents have been invited to sign up for 10-minute conferences with their children’s teachers. The conference can be set up through the JMC Parent Portal or by calling the school office. Parents will have private meetings with their children’s teachers. They are also invited to bring their children’s school supplies to their classroom at this time. Conference have been made available in person, via the telephone or via Zoom.

Schutte added that, according the Statewide Voluntary Preschool Program requirements, all families will participate in at least one home visit, one family night and a minimum of two family-teacher conferences annually. During Friday’s intake conferences, home visits will be scheduled.

Schutte also distributed a list of possible topics for parents to talk to teachers about, including their strengths, what motivates their children and what their children hope to achieve this year.
