POSTVILLE — The Northeast Iowa Wellness and Recreation Center (NEIWRC) will be stepping back from sponsoring Postville’s youth sports programs beginning this summer.

In a letter to city and school officials as well as the Postville Booster Club, parents and community members, the NEIWRC said it did not request funds for the 2023 summer recreation season and does not plan to organize other programs in the future.

“The Board of Directors of the Northeast Iowa Wellness & Recreation Center has made the decision regarding Summer Rec 2023 and will also be stepping away and transitioning all youth sports to a parent based program without the NEIAWRC organizing the youth sports programs,” NEIWRC Board members said in the letter.

A meeting will be held Wednesday (Jan. 18) at 5 p.m. at the community room of the Wellness Center to allow conversation about the upcoming transition and future plans.

The letter went on to say that the NEIWRC plans to continue to support the community.

“We remain committed to serving the community of Postville and the surrounding area, through a variety of programs for people of all ages,” the letter said.
