Marvin Arthur Winter

Marvin Arthur Winter, 90 of Postville, Iowa passed away Monday, October 28, 2024. Marvin was born October 21, 1934 to Alfred Henry and Olivia Catherine (Roelike) Winter in Elrosa, Minnesota. Marvin’s parents moved to Postville when he was 6-years old. He graduated from Postville High School where he was very active in Sports. Marvin was on a 2-mile relay team that held a school record for 24 years. He was also an All-State football player. After Marvin graduated from high school, he proudly joined and served in the United States Air Force.

On July 11, 1959, Marvin was united in marriage with Janet Marlene Van Houweling at the Catholic Church in Clermont, Iowa. Three children were born to this union, Michael, Jolynn and Joann. Marvin worked for Rural Allamakee Clayton Electric Company (REC) in Postville, Iowa for forty years before retiring in 1996. He enjoyed doing yardwork, wood working, playing cards and watching football on TV. Marvin was a fixture on the sidelines of Postville Football games for many years running the yard markers.

Marvin was a member of St. Bridget Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus for many years, the Postville Fire Department for Fifty years and the AM Vets for twelve years.

Surviving Marvin are his three children, Michael (Paula) Winter of Rock Island, Illinois, Jolynn (Brad) Moshner of Portland, Oregon and Joann (Jeff) Matt of Montezuma, Iowa; three grandchildren, Jericho (Kyle) Winter-Stephens, Keegan (Wolfgang) Strovers and Pierce Matt; three great-grandchildren, Jonah, Jude and Kellan Stephens; and one sister, Gloria Mason.

Marvin was preceded in death by his wife, Janet Winter; grandson, Jackson Grant Moshner; his parents, Alfred and Olivia Winter; and six siblings.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:30 am on Saturday, November 2, 2024 at St. Bridget Catholic Church in Postville, Iowa with Rev. Martin Coolidge as the Celebrant. There will be a two- hour visitation from 9:30 am until mass time at the church on Saturday.

Inurnment with honors will follow at Postville Cemetery in Postville, Iowa.
