Lorraine Ben Lenth
Lorraine Ben Lenth, 94 of Postville, Iowa, died Sunday, July 3, 2022 at Good Samaritan Society in Postville, Iowa. Lorraine was born April 18, 1928, in rural Monona township, Monona, Iowa, to Wilbert Frank and Viola (Gruel) Lenth. He was baptized on May 20, 1928 and confirmed March 29, 1942 at St Paul Lutheran Church Monona. Lorraine graduated from Monona High School in 1945. While in school, he participated in band, basketball and baseball.
On November 6, 1952, Lorraine was united in marriage with JoAnn Sass at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Monona. Lorraine was drafted into the United States Army and served from March 1955 until March 1957. After returning from the Army, Lorraine started farming south of Luana in 1958. Lorraine and JoAnn raised three children together. Dairy farming was his life but he would take a break weekly and bowl on a league for 63 years. Lorraine’s idea of a vacation was bowling at the yearly state tournament of which he did 46 times. He was very active in St. Paul Lutheran Church where he served on the church council, the property committee and ushering. He also enjoyed dancing and playing cards. He liked to attend the grandkids activities and play games with them. He was avid Iowa Hawkeye football and basketball fan, Green Bay Packers, Chicago White Sox and Chicago Cubs fan and would watch them on TV as much as he could. He also liked tending to his flower beds to see what he could grow after moving to town in 1998.
Surviving Lorraine are his three children, Traci Johnson of Cedar Rapids, Terry (DeAnn) Lenth of Luana, and Tim (Melisa) Lenth of Luana; grandchildren, Travis and Abbey Johnson, Brittany, Benjamin and Brayden Lenth and Julie and Jaxon Lenth; and one brother, Lee Allen Lenth of Littleport, Iowa.
Lorraine was preceded in death by his wife, JoAnn on October 22, 2008; his parents, Wilbert and Viola Lenth; brother, Wilbert Lenth Jr.; sister, Gertrude Kurth; and son-in-law, Jim Johnson.

Visitation will be held from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm on Sunday, July 10, 2022 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Postville, Iowa. There will also be a one hour visitation before services at the church on Monday.
Funeral Service will be at 11:00 am on Monday, July 11, 2022 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Postville, Iowa.
Burial will follow in the Postville, Cemetery, Postville, Iowa.
