Kapler joins Herald staff as reporter
POSTVILLE - A Hawkeye native has joined the Postville Herald staff as its newest reporter.
Destiny Kapler, 27, joins the staff after working for Kerndt Brothers Bank in West Union as a universal banker, where she had also been in charge of the company newsletter.
“I really enjoyed that,” she said. “There’s actually a little more writing than you would expect in banking - writing e-mails, writing letters to customers, that type of thing.”
While working at Kerndt Brothers’ West Union location, Kapler said she also spent time at the bank’s Clermont location.
“I got to know a lot of people in Clermont, and down that way, because sometimes I would work down there for a solid week or two at a time when people were on vacation,” she said.
Kapler had also worked at a restaurant and in sales at an area furniture store. In her short time with The Herald, she said she has learned a lot.
“I’ve learned how to use a professional camera, lots of different ways to save things in Google Docs and some of the newspaper style of writing,” she said.
Herald editor John Jensen said he has been impressed with Kapler’s skills in the short time he has been working with her.
“Destiny is going to quickly become a very good reporter,” he said. “She has an outgoing personality and strong writing skills. She is already an outstanding member of our team who will do nothing but improve.”
Kapler joins a Herald staff that also includes designer Nadine Brock and sales manager Nikki Vega. She is also in charge of some administrative duties at the Herald office.
Kapler will also be doing reporting for the Monona Outlook and is training to become an editor. Send her story ideas at info@calmarcourier.com or call 319-824-3333.
