Gertrude Louise Kugel Lee

Gertrude (Gert) was born September 11, 1928 to William and Amelia (Hammon) Kugel on the family farm in Grand Meadow Township near Luana, Iowa.

Gert was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Postville. She attended Baily Country School and graduated from Postville High School in 1947. After graduation she worked as a nurse’s aide at Postville Hospital and then became the office secretary of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church.

On August 6, 1954 she was united in marriage to Keith Lee at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Postville. Keith and Gert farmed for 10 years near Decorah and 37 years near Monona. They raised purebred hogs, Airedale dogs, Standardbred horses, and Thoroughbred horses. In 1989 Keith and Gert started a new business selling maintenance products. In 2001 they bought a home in Wadena.

Gert’s talents were many including her poems, her handmade greeting cards, her pancakes, and her unceasing love for all.

Surviving her is her husband Keith and sons Jacob (Carol) of Moyo, Uganda, John (Diane) of Monona, Jeff of Wadena, Jens (Denise) of New London, and daughter Jackie of Marion. Nine Grandchildren Joshua (Rebecca) Lee, Josiah (Unyae) Lee, Anna (Kenny) Danley, Brian Creasman, Christa Lee, Brenna Lee, Kaitlyn Lee, Kallie Lee and Megan Lee. Eight Great Grandchildren. Two sisters in law Margaret Kugel, Wilma Kugel, and one brother in law Dean Hagen. Several nieces, nephews, and many friends.

Preceding her in death were her parents; two brothers, Vernon and Donald Kugel; two sisters, Eunice Torson and Bernadine Blumhagen; four brothers in law, Ronald Blumhagen, Gene Torson, Donald Aspenson, and Wally Larson; two sisters in law, Gloria Larson and LaRue Hagen; One grandson, Garrick Lee.

Due to COVID-19, a private service with immediate family is planned. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
