Elizabeth “Betty” Madonna Rothmeyer Schnuelle

Elizabeth “Betty” Madonna Rothmeyer Schnuelle, 82, of Castalia, IA went to be with her husband Eddie to forever twirl on that big dance floor in the sky on December 9th, 2022.

Betty was born on June 7, 1940 in Ossian, Iowa to Frank and Genevieve (Gerleman) Rothmeyer. She graduated from St. Francis de Sales Catholic School in 1958. Betty was united in marriage with Eddie Charles Schnuelle on September 20, 1958 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Together they owned/operated the Heidelberg restaurant in Luana and then for 25 years the Conoco Gas Station in Castalia. Throughout this time and after, she had many laughs with great co-workers at the Wagon Wheel restaurant in Ossian and Casey’s General Store in Postville. Betty was also an active member at St. Francis de Sales Church.

Everyone knew that Betty & Eddie were a pair as they loved their several grandkids and dogs… and not necessarily in that order. After Eddie passed, Betty was known to say, “Eddie and I had the BEST life!” And they sure did as they loved to be with their extensive family, and of course, to dance.

Betty is survived by her children, Mitchell (Sandi) Schnuelle of Castalia, Danny (Julie) Schnuelle of Mauston, WI, Peggy (Don) Hicks of Burnsville, MN, Joey (Carol) Schnuelle of Ossian, IA and Mindy (Luther) Koenig of Luana, IA; grandchildren Misty, Molly, Dustin, Joshua, Jeremy, Misty, Angel, Troy (TJ), Erica, Lexie, Lane, Logan, Landen, Dominick, Ben, Nelson and Adele. Great-grandchildren, Vanessa, Valorie, Carson, Paxton, Alexis, April, Leah, Levi, Lanae, Caleb, Michael, Nathan, Addison, Caleb, Maddox, Will, McKenna, Megan, Brayden and Athena; great-great grandchildren, Maverick and Maddox; brother, Bob (Audrey) Rothmeyer of Ossian, twin brother, Billy Rothmeyer of Loveland, CO, brother Art Rothmeyer of Casper, WY, brother-in-law, Allan (Judy) Schnuelle of Castalia; sister-in-law, Judy (Arvin) Koopman of Dalton, WI; sisters-in-law, Lois Schnuelle, Karen Schnuelle and Beverly Schnuelle all of Castalia, IA; many nieces, nephews, friends and her beloved dog, FeeFee.

Betty was preceded in death by her husband Eddie; parents, Frank and Genevieve Rothmeyer, sisters, Irene (Pat) Grady and Jean Ann (Jeannie), Rothmeyer, brother Jim Rothmeyer; in-laws, Fritz and Irene Schnuelle; brothers-in-law, Raymond Schnuelle, Donald Schnuelle, Clinton Schnuelle, John Grady; sisters-in-law, Nancy Rothmeyer, Harriet Rothmeyer, Peggy Rothmeyer, Donna Rothmeyer; nephews, Grant Koopman, Rodney Schnuelle, Shane Rothmeyer; great-nephews Jesse France and Cody France.

Visitation will be Thursday December 15th from 4-7 pm with the rosary and scripture service beginning at 3:00 at Schmitz-Grau Funeral Home, Ossian, IA. Visitation also one hour before funeral services at the church on Friday.

Funeral Services will be at 12:00 pm on Friday December 16th at St. Francis de Sales, Ossian, IA with Father Henry Huber officiating.

Interment will be at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Cemetery, Ossian, IA following the funeral.
