Dwight E. Doerring

BEXLEY, OHIO – Dwight E. Doerring, 73, of Bexley, Ohio, passed away, Monday, May 3, 2021. He was born on October 22, 1947 in Postville, Iowa to the late Eugene A. and Rita (Gentz) Doerring.

Dwight will be greatly missed by his loving wife of 53 years, Helen; son Robert (Catherine) Doerring, and their sons Edward and Nolan, all from Columbus, Ohio; sister Bonnie Doerring Hopkins and her daughter Stacie (Jason) Naslund and their children Kaya and Alec, all from Denver, Colorado. Sisters-in-law Margaret Smith (John) Nicholson - Columbus, Ohio; Jane Smith (Charles - deceased October 2020) Dellenbaugh - Groveport, Ohio; and Ada Smith (J.D.) Greer - San Antonio, Texas; uncle, Robert (Doris) Doerring- Lancaster, Wisconsin; numerous nieces and nephews.

Dwight was raised on a farm in Northeast Iowa. He graduated from Postville High School in 1966, Waldorf Jr. College (Forest City, Iowa) where he met Helen, and also attended The Ohio State University. He retired from the Columbus Kroger Bakery after 42 ½ years.

A true Renaissance man, some of his numerous accomplishments, hobbies, and interests included: President of FF A in high school, 4-H Club, Model RR Club, Cub Master for the Boy Scouts of America; building plastic model cars, planes, trains, ships, tanks; neighborhood softball teams, league bowling, fishing with grandsons, Geo-caching, RC cars, sketching/painting, fountain pens, bird watching, photography, making endless numbers of paracord bracelets, reading military history, vacationing and/or visiting family and friends in Myrtle Beach, SC, Lakeside, Ohio, NYC, (Kentucky, Tennessee, and New Mexico to see caves), Iowa, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Maine, Canada, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Missouri, and Virginia; and collecting T-shirts and hats from wherever he’d been.

A private graveside service was held May 6, 2021, at Blendon Central Cemetery, Westerville, Ohio.

A memorial service at Christian Life Church of Westerville, where he was a 40-year member, will be held at a later date. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to North Spring Christian Academy, 425 N. Spring Rd., Westerville, Ohio 43082, where Dwight lovingly served as a school aide for the students which included his cherished grandsons.
