Donald Gene Reierson Sr.
Donald Gene Reierson Sr., 85, of Postville, Iowa died Wednesday, March 23, 2022 at his home in Postville, Iowa. Donald Gene was born June 15, 1936 to Ole and Marie (Martie) Reierson in Elgin, Iowa.
He graduated from Elgin High School in 1954. Don joined the United States National Guard with class 28 in Fort Worth, Texas. He also went to Army Service School in Fort Hood, Texas. He served six years.
Don was united in marriage with Shirley Melcher. Three children were born to this union. Don was employed by Fayette County as a Snow Plow Driver. He had many interests, including fast pitch ball, going to the races, and pool league with his best friend Harley. Don even went to State a few times for Pool. He also enjoyed talking about shooting pool and all sports. He enjoyed watching his grandson Cade play ball, going out to eat, and playing cards. His greatest joy was spending time with his family and friends, especially his grandchildren, whom he was so proud of and he loved to brag about them. Don was well known and had a heart of gold and would do anything for anyone, he would give them the shirt off his back if need be.
Surviving Don are his three children, Robin Kjosa of Postville, Iowa, Dawn Ondrashek of Jesup, Iowa and Donald Reierson Jr. of Elgin, Iowa; eight grandchildren, Jacob, Blake, Clarissa, Cade, Derek, Christian, Alicia, and Ryan; four grandchildren, Aubree, Spencer, Kilya and Anaya; four great-grandchildren; his siblings and in-laws, Robert (Mary) Reierson of Postville, Iowa, Darlene Abel of Belle, Missouri, and Shirley Reierson of Elgin, Iowa.
Don was preceded in death by his parents, Ole and Marie Reierson; siblings and in-laws, Glen Reierson, Clarence (Mavis) Reierson, Lydia (Levi) Molokken, and Cecil Abel; and his half-siblings, Alphie Reierson, Orvin (Marion) Reierson, Bernice (Melvin) Vick and Gladys (Bert) Bruckner.
Visitation will be held from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm on Saturday, March 26, 2022 at Schutte-Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Postville, Iowa. Funeral Service will be at 1:00 pm on Saturday, March 26, 2022 at Schutte-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Postville, Iowa with Rev. Lynn Noel as the officiant.
Inurnment with Military Rites will be held at a later date.
