Diane Kay Weston
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Diane Kay Weston, 76, Feb. 1, 2024. She left this world peacefully after a courageous and brief battle with cancer at Western Home Communities in Cedar Falls surrounded by her loved ones. Born Aug. 26, 1947, in Decorah, Diane Burrett is the daughter of Roy Campbell Burrett and Constance Joyce Burrett. She was raised in Arlington and was part of the first graduating class at Starmont High School. Diane was united in marriage with Dr. Kenneth Weston Aug. 6, 1966, in Arlington. In 1968, the young couple moved to Reedsville, Wisconsin after Ken finished his degree in veterinary medicine. Diane supported his career by fielding late-night calls from farmers, adjusting to the ever-changing schedule of large animal veterinarian, and raising their four children in Brillion, Wisconsin. In the summer of 1988, the family moved to Postville for Ken and his partners to start their veterinary practice. In 2016, Ken and Diane moved to Decorah.
Most of all, Diane was known for her kind heart and commitment to her family. She was a dedicated wife who cared for her husband for the past five years as he transitioned to hospice care due to his Parkinson’s with Lewy body dementia diagnosis. She loved her grandchildren more than anything and cared for them like they were her own. She was a talented artist, whose paintings and drawings have created a beautiful legacy for her family to remember her. She enjoyed traveling and celebrated her Norwegian heritage by visiting Norway multiple times and dedicating her time to the Vesterheim Museum in Decorah.
She is survived by her husband, Dr. Kenneth Weston; her four children: Todd (Krista) Weston, of Verona, Wisconsin; John (Dr. Marnie) Weston, of El Granada, California; Aamy Weston-Lewis, of Manchester, and Beth Weston, of Waterloo, and her grandchildren: Hannah (Mitch) Lahmann, Madeline Weston, Maya Rowland, Christian Weston, Megan Lewis, Kai Weston, Finn Weston and Malakai Quinn.
She was preceded in death by her parents: Roy Burrett in 1985 and Connie Burrett in 2019.
A visitation was set from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 11, at Burnham-Wood-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service in West Union with a one-hour visitation before services at the church Monday.
Funeral Service was set for 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 12, at Calmar Lutheran Church in Calmar, Iowa with the Rev. Daryl Thompson as the officiant.
Burial will follow at the West Union City Cemetery in West Union.
