Deceased individual found west of Postville

POSTVILLE – The Allamakee County Sheriff’s Department reported Wednesday that a deceased individual had been located along the Canadian Pacific Kansas City (CPKC) Railway right of way west of the intersection of Empire Drive and Highway 18 west of Postville.

The report did not indicate a cause of death, though it indicated that foul play was not suspected and that there was no danger to the public. It said the individual had apparently been deceased for a length of time.

The individual was transported to the Iowa State Medical Examiner’s Office for identification and an autopsy.

Officials have requested the public’s assistance in identifying the individual. He has been described as a male with black hair, a beard and missing a front tooth. He was wearing a black long-sleeve t-shirt, blue jeans and black athletic shoes. He also had a black backpack with a Milwaukee Valve logo and a large red aluminium bottle. A green boonie-style hat was also located at the scene.

Authorities also found a black Raleigh 21-speed hybrid-style bicycle with a small under-seat storage bag. A tire-inflation pump was attached to the frame, which had serial number U110K03617.

Anyone having information about the individual should contact the Allamakee County Sheriff’s Department, 563-568-4521.
