Darrel Koozer

Darrel Dwayne Koozer, age 84, peacefully passed away Sunday, September 4, 2022. A Celebration of Life will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, September 24 at Calvary Baptist Church, 1704 Green Valley Road, Waukon. Service will begin at 11 a.m. followed by a meal. Graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. at Oak Hill Cemetery, 1843 Valley Street, Lansing.

Darrel was born January 30, 1938 to Royal and Florence Koozer in Geneva, NE. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1955 and served until 1975, becoming a Corpsman. He retired as a Chief Petty Officer.

Darrel married Janet Colene Brooks in 1956 and had five children. After he retired from the Navy, he drove semi trucks for various companies. He enjoyed mechanical work and woodworking, restoring old vehicles and making wood-themed clocks.

Darrel is preceded in death by his parents, Royal and Florence Koozer; two brothers, Alvin and Harold; and his sister, Beverly.

Survivors include his wife, Janet Koozer of Waukon; his brother, Marvin “Lynn” Koozer of Aurora, NE; his children, Kimberly Thomas of Waukon, Kristine (Dan) Piedot and Karen (Randy) Ehde, both of Harpers Ferry, Darren Koozer of Postville and Kenneth (Laurie) Koozer of Harpers Ferry; 19 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

In lieu of giving flowers, the family asks that donations be made to one of the following institutions: Veterans Memorial Hospital, Allamakee County Historical Society or the Cancer Foundation.
