Betty Bodley
Betty Bodley, 100, of Waukon, IA, died Sunday, January 28, 2024, at Northgate Care Center in Waukon. A private family memorial and burial will be held at a later date in Baxter, IA. Martin-Grau Funeral Home in Waukon is handling arrangements.
Betty Jane Tipton was born April 12, 1923, in Ames, IA, the daughter of Milo and Emma (Pleshek) Tipton. She grew up in Baxter, IA. On October 26, 1941, Betty was united in marriage to Ted Bodley and they celebrated 73 years of marriage. After moving from central Iowa, she and Ted farmed many years in the Maynard, Postville, and Waukon areas.
She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Fayette, IA. Betty was very talented; she cross-stitched and sewed beautifully. She was a fantastic cook and loved baking apple pies and making fudge with Ted. Throughout the years, she and the family loved to go to fairs, where they had 4-H projects and a picnic with Betty’s fried chicken from the cast iron skillet. She and family also enjoyed times together exploring parks in the area and going to drive in movies. Traveling was another great enjoyment of Betty’s. She had a very spunky personality with a laugh that lit up the room.
Survivors include her four children: Rebecca Davis of Meriden, CT, Craig (Jo Anne) Bodley of Postville, IA, Cheryl (Roger) Arthur of Sumner, IA, and Allen (Susan) Bodley of Hawkeye, IA; nine grandchildren: Stephanie Jordan, Ted Davis Jr., Vicki Klepper, Angela Arthur, Amanda Arthur-Struss, and Jamie, Trent, Tim, and Scott Bodley; 13 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband Ted in 2015; a sister Mary Tipton; a brother and his wife John Dale (Joanne) Tipton; and a son-in-law Bud Davis of Meriden, CT.
