Terry “Hoot” Meyer

Terry “Hoot” Meyer, 70 of Postville, Iowa passed away surrounded by his family on Saturday, June 28, 2025 at his home. Terry was born February 8, 1955 to Harold “Hoot” and Doris (Ellis) Meyer in Postville, Iowa. He graduated from Postville High School with the class of 1973. Terry continued his education, attending Kirkwood College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa for welding and truck driving.

On September 18, 1982, Terry was united in marriage with Robin Polfer at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. Their wedding was featured in the People magazine. Two children were born to this union. Hoot owned and operated a blacksmith shop. He was also employed at Bruening Rock Products, was a supervisor at Agri-Processors and worked side by side with his son Jeremy at Meyer Concrete for eighteen years.

Hoot was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Postville, Iowa. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, tinkering in his shop and driving his Cuda and Harley. Hoot’s greatest joy was spending time with his family.

Terry is survived by his wife Robin Meyer; children, Jeremy Meyer of Clermont and Leah (Andrew) Hennessy of Waukon; nine grandchildren, Ava Meyer, Kendyl Meyer, Carter Meyer, Joe Hennessy (Peyton Verthein), Sarah Hennessy (Jared Frana), Matt Hennessy, Anna Hennessy, Ellizabeth Hennessy and Andrew Jr. Hennessy and three great-grandchildren, Myles, Jacksyn and Aurora Hennessy.

Preceding Terry in death were his parents, Harold and Doris Meyer; brother, Larry Meyer; sister, Linda Muchow; and his parents-in-law, Herman and Mary Polfer.

A visitation will be held from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Wednesday, July 2, 2025 at Schutte-Grau Funeral Home in Postville, Iowa. There will also be a one hour visitation before services at the church on Thursday.

Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 am on Thursday, July 3, 2025 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Postville, Iowa with Rev. Lynn Noel as the officiant.

Burial will follow at the Postville Cemetery, Postville, Iowa.
