It’s Homecoming week; join the festivities
It’s Homecoming week at Postville High School. This year’s theme is “Pummel The Panthers” as the Pirates play the Central Springs Panthers in the Homecoming game Friday night.
The events began Monday and will conclude with the Homecoming Dance after the game on Friday night.
The week began with middle school athletics. The middle school football team traveled to Wapsie Valley and middle school volleyball hosted Clayton Ridge Monday.
In honor of the first day of Homecoming week students and staff were encouraged to dress up for decade day (A blast from the past). People could be spotted walking right out of the 60’s, 70’s, 80’s. 90’s and early 2000’s.
The week’s activities continued on Tuesday when there was an advisor competition. It was dubbed “Hungry Hippos.” Cross Country traveled to Waukon and high school volleyball was at Turkey Valley. Middle School volleyball played against North Fayette Valley.
Staff and students alike were celebrating TV Day on Tuesday. One could spot characters from television shows both past and present roaming the halls of both Cora B. Darling and John R. Mott Junior Senior High School.
Today (Wednesday) there is an after school dodgeball tournament for all who signed up earlier in the week.
Wednesday is also Neon/Glow in the Dark Day (Shine Bright) Everyone is asked to be a light in the dark and shine all day long.
Thursday the seniors will take on the staff in a volleyball game. It is also picture day and everyone is asked to wear their dress up clothes. They are also asked to bring their best smile.
Meal and Parade
The community is invited to join in on the fun Thursday evening. A tailgate supper will be held at the 4-way stop from 5-6:30 p.m. The parade through downtown Postville will begin at 6:30 p.m.
The menu includes pork loin or all beef hotdogs, chips, bars and water or milk for a free will donation.
Following the parade, a pep rally will be held at the football field. The Homecoming King and Queen will be crowned during the pep rally.
This year’s candidates, chosen by their peers, are Jillian Fish, Nayeli Vega, Hannah Dehning, Gabe Loera, Isaac Steffans and Robert White.
Friday is Spirit Day. Everyone is encouraged to wear all red and black and show their Pirate Pride!
A junior varsity football game will begin at 5 p.m. against Central Springs, followed by the varsity at 7:30 p.m. The Homecoming court will also be introduced at halftime of the game. The Pirate band, under the director of Shauna Marie Johnsen will also be performing.
The dance will be held in the high school gym after the game and will last until 11:30 p.m.
Coach Johnson and the Pirates are hoping for a large crowd as they fight for the first Pirate win of the season.
