Board of education does not remove secretarial position transfer from consent agenda

Judy Miller, who has been a secretary in the Postville Community School district for the past 26 years, addressed the Board of Education at its regular meeting Monday, June  17. Miller, who was the principal’s secretary at Cora B. Darling School for nearly a quarter of a century, was transferred to another secretarial position for the 2018-19 school year; however, she was told recently that her position was being eliminated for the 2019-20 school year. She was further notified that she was being transferred to a paraprofessional position effective immediately.

While reading her prepared statement, and having been told she had a maximum of three minutes to present her case, Judy said, “I feel like I have done a good job in my secretarial position. I have never had a bad review by any administrator and, as a matter of fact, I have not had an evaluation since Chad (Wahls) left the district.”

She went on, “I have always prided myself on paying attention to detail and have worked with the state to make sure all of our records are correct as state aid depends on accurate record keeping. I know the second generation of many families. I live in the district and take great pride in Postville schools.”
