The annual Postville Easter Egg Hunt is returning LIVE and IN PERSON at Lulls Park on April 16, 2022 at 10 am, with a rain location at Turner Hall. The event for children ages 2-9, is open to the public and all are welcome.

The Club of the Hour has been organizing and sponsoring the event since the early 1990s. The Club solicits sponsorship from local businesses to aid in covering the cost of the candy and prize filled eggs and the goodie bags every child receives. Business sponsors are acknowledged in multiple ways throughout the event. “The businesses have been very generous in the past,” notes Marty Erickson, one of the Easter Egg Hunt committee members. “In 2020, when we had to cancel because of COVID the funds were held on to for 2021, so there were no solicitations last year, because we used that money.” Last years’ Hunt was a ‘grab and go’ event with approximately 120 bags being given out.

Prior to COVID, in its heyday, the event would have between 140-150 children participating.

“This year there will be 12,000 eggs hidden in the park. To the East in the park, the 2-4 year olds hunt, behind the pool going to Good Sam are 4 -7 year olds, and the far West park of the park is the 8 and 9 year olds. The eggs are distributed throughout each area,” states Erickson. Participants gather in the Lulls Park parking lot and register by age group. This helps the organizers determine the number of eggs each child can gather, ensuring every child receives an equal number.

After the children gather up their eggs filled with things such as candy, bubbles, tattoos, and stickers, they are able to get a goodie bag. Each bag will have a myriad of gifts; a magic screen, coupons from local businesses, play putty, and playing cards, to name a few. The Easter Bunny will be available for pictures free of charge taken by Sara Palas Photography. The Rankin family will also be on hand with rabbits for the children to pet.

“The Easter Bunny is responsible for everything; but it is a community effort,” muses Erikson. Some of the residents of Grand Meadows Glen worked to help fill the eggs. The Postville Thespian Troupe and Derek Friederich help to clean the park, prior to and after the event.  They also work with the Club of the Hour in hiding the eggs and go with the hunters. “It is a fun project. I just love being involved in it,” states Erickson.
