Midwest Veterans of America hosts celebration, honors Postville veteran


The Midwest Veterans of America hosted a Fourth of July Celebration on Sunday, July 6.
The event, held in Sweeney’s Shelter in Waukon Park, was a cookout open to the public, with attendees bringing salads and desserts to share. Area veterans from the northeast Iowa area were honored. Also honored was the late Mark Steven Dreier of Postville, a veteran of the Vietnam war. An award was accepted on his behalf by a relative named after him, eleven-year-old Mark Steven Dreier.
The following information about Drier is taken from a funeral service announcement in the Wednesday, June 18, 1969 edition of the Postville Herald:
Mark S. Dreier, son of Herbert and Frances Erhardt Dreier, was born in Postville, on April 20, 1950, and died in the service of his country on June 2, 1969 in Vietnam, at the age of 19 years, one month and 12 days.
Mark received his education in the Postville Schools. On September 18, 1968 he entered the military service and on February 13, 1969 left the United States for duty in Vietnam.
Pfc. Dreier is survived by his parents; and three sisters: Ida (Mrs Marvin Block) of Oxford; Mary (Mrs. Gerald Vagts) of West Union, and Pauline (Mrs. James Collins) also of Oxford, maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Dave Erhardt of Waukon; nephews, nieces, cousins, and a host of friends.
