Lynn Allan Sander

Lynn Allan Sander, passed away peacefully on April 13, 2023 at his home in Rochester, Minnesota, at the age of 69 years, eight months and twenty days, with his staff family in attendance.

Lynn Allan Sander was born on July 23, 1953 to Willard and Beverly (Brown) Sander in Postville, IA. He was baptized and later confirmed at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Postville and was educated at Postville Community Schools, Class of 1971. He held various jobs over the years, including positions with John Deere, in construction and with the railroad. In his earlier years, Lynn enjoyed the outdoors, golf, fishing, and hunting. Following injuries from an auto accident when he was 29, Lynn resided in rehab and group homes in Minneapolis and for the last 12 years, in Rochester, MN. He participated in day programs, classes and activities in the community. His special interests were Clint Eastwood movies, the Green Bay Packers, motorcycles, cars, concerts and rock music. Lynn was a serious coffee drinker. Several years ago, he made the decision to quit smoking and was successful. Lynn will always be remembered and cherished for being kind, caring, sincere, grateful and for his playful, contagious humor. He always made everyone smile and called others ‘beautiful’ and ‘incredible’ frequently. In the words of his program director ‘we have LOVED every day and every minute spent with him’. Lynn enriched the lives of many. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Lynn was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his siblings: Marcee Sander of Coralville and Dan Sander of McGregor; nephew Clint Sander of Prairie du Chien, WI; maternal aunt, Sharon (Brown) Kainauskas of Fairfield, IA, paternal uncle, Wayne (Jean) Sander of New Hampton, IA; cousins, friends, and his wonderful group home family in Rochester, MN.

A memorial visitation will be held Friday, April 28, 2023 at Schutte-Grau Funeral Home, 214 E. Tilden Street, Postville, Iowa 52162 from 5-7 pm. A PRIVATE Celebration of Life will be held for Lynn with Pastor Lynn J. Noel from St. Paul’s Lutheran Church Postville, officiating. Inurnment will follow at Postville Cemetery.
