Elgin grocery store to continue under new management as Valley Fresh Market

Although the grocery store in Elgin has been operating as Tico Market for the past five years, as of December 1, the store has a new name and a new look as it transitions into the Valley Fresh Market. Tim and Coletta Harnisch, who have operated the store since it was sold by Quillins, are leaving the business to pursue other interests and the community has rallied to keep the store operating.

A group of investors, numbering nearly 60, most of whom are members of Main Street Elgin, were adamant about keeping a grocery business in town. Member Dirk Torkeleson, speaking for the group said, “We wanted to make sure our shoppers had a grocery store in town. The store is a big service in the community. When we heard that Tim and Coletta were looking to pursue other career paths, our group got together to see what options we had.”

He added, “Along with our local shoppers, we will continue to welcome shoppers from Postville during our regular hours which are 7:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sundays. Anyone having questions about continued delivery to Postville, should call the store at (563) 426-5549.
