Candidates for March 4 Postville School Board Vacancy Election

By:
Denise Beyer
Allamakee County Auditor and Commissioner of Elections

On March 4, 2025 there will be a special election for the Postville Community School District. Voters will be voting on two things: a Revenue Purpose Statement and to fill a vacancy on the School Board of Directors. The vacancy is to fill the position vacated by Larry Schultz who resigned in May 2024, with a term ending in November 2025. Maria Vazquez was appointed to serve until the next eligible election, which is now March 4. In November 2025, the same position will be on the ballot again for a full 4-year term, so the person elected does have to run again later this year if they wish to continue in the role.

Anyone interested in being on the ballot for the Postville School Board vacancy must submit an Affidavit of Candidacy and Nomination Petitions with a minimum of 19 signatures to the School Board Secretary no later than February 7 at 5:00 pm. The School Board Secretary’s office will be open until 5pm on this day. Signatures must be from eligible voters living within the Postville School District.  Affidavit and Nomination Petitions can be picked up from the School Board Secretary, the County Auditor’s office or printed online at https://sos.iowa.gov/ - click on Elections – click on Candidates – click on School – then print one Affidavit of Candidacy and as many Nomination Petitions as needed. The Candidate Guide is also helpful for answering many questions a candidate may have. Questions can be directed to School Board Secretary Melissa Fettkether or County Auditor Denise Beyer.
