Veteran boys’ basketball coach Mike Sass is entering his 14th year as the head coach of the Pirates and his assistant, Aandi Deering has been working with the program for 14 years.

The team returns four letter winners in Owen Jacobson, Blake Wettleson, Nick Jacobs and Jacob Steffans who are all seniors. Others expected to see much action on the court are Harrison Dehning, Cole Walch, Collin Bacon, Gabe Loera, Robert White and Collin Malcom.

About his Pirates, Sass said, “I think we have a lot of talent on the team, but how we play together will determine what kind of year we have.”

Jamboree

Last Monday evening the Pirates played in the annual Jamboree at MFL MarMac where several area teams played one half.

Coach Sass said, “The jamboree was a nice introduction into varsity basketball for our young guys. I thought overall we did well. We really moved the ball and attacked the rim nicely on offense and made some three point shots as well. Our offense was very good. Our defense needs work yet.
