Though modified, the Allamakee County Fair to take place the first full week in July

As of this past week, The Allamakee County Fair, though abbreviated, is a go. Due to COVID-19 many events have had to be changed or canceled, yet the fair will be held the first full week in July.

There will be no midway carnival and the grandstand headliner “Slippery When Wet” and the rodeo will not happen, but other entertainment which may be observed with social distancing and other guidelines in place will happen. The Allamakee County Dairy Wagon and other food vendors will be on site.

The Caminos will still perform as the opening act of the fair as they will perform live in the grassy area in front of the Pavilion, Thursday, July 9 beginning at 7 p.m. The cost of admission is a free will donation and those attending are asked to bring their own lawn chairs and blankets. Again, social distancing is encouraged. The Allamakee County Fair Royalty Team will also be introduced during this performance.

All 4-H and FFA youth activities will occur with specific guidelines implemented, according to mitigation restrictions, with efforts and resources shifted to a limited audience for “Show and Go” livestock exhibition throughout the week. This year a Livestock Premium Auction will take the place of the traditional Livestock Auction. There will be no live auction of animals, prior arrangements for market animals have been made. The Livestock Premium Auction will be held Sunday, July 12 at 5 p.m. at the Allamakee County Fairgrounds Show Barn.
