This past week on November 8 and 9, fourteen students from Postville’s Thespian Troupe 417 attended the State Thespian Festival at the University of Northern Iowa.  The festival is held annually and over 1,000 Iowa Thespians and directors were in attendance.  Students had the opportunity to see performances from other Iowa high schools and attend workshops taught by theatre professionals from various colleges, universities and businesses.

Postville’s troupe entered an acting scene into competition and received third place honors for their work.  Khiaya Burns, Emily Frey, Gabriela Garcia, Aleesa Lavrenko, Wilson Perez and Logan Shipp performed a comedic scene entitled “Controlling Interest”.  Judges praised the group for their well-defined characters, facial expressions and movement.  Khiaya, Wilson and Aleesa also placed third in Group Acting at last year’s festival.

Aleesa Lavrenko was also selected to represent Troupe 417 in the 2nd Annual All-State Cabaret.
