Postville Memorial Day observance to be held May 28

Postville’s Annual Memorial Day observance will be held Monday, May 28 at St. Paul Lutheran Church Fellowship Hall beginning at 10 a.m..

The event is sponsored by the American Legion Post 518.

In lieu of reading the honor roll list of all area deceased veterans, their names will be displayed via a power point presentation beginning at 9:45 a.m. Gold Star Mothers will be recognized as well.

The high school band will play at various times throughout the program including during the display of honor roll members’ names. The high school band is directed by Shauna Marie Johnsen.

The speaker will be Pastor Lynn J. Noel of St. Paul Lutheran Church. Pastor Gary Catterson of Community Presbyterian Church will also participate in the program.

Quilts of Valor will also be presented to area veterans.

Large flags for the Avenue of Flags will be placed in the Postville Cemetery at 5 p.m. on Friday, May 25. Prior to the placing of the flags for the Avenue of Flags, individual flags will be placed on veterans’ graves at 4 p.m. In case of rain, flags will be put up at 9 a.m. on Saturday. Those willing to help should meet at the cemetery.

Flags will be taken down Monday, May 28 at 4 p.m.. Anyone willing to help should meet at the shed for instructions.
