Pirates open season at Oelwein, bring home third place finish from Jesup tournament

The Pirates opened the wrestling season at Oelwein against three tough foes.

They grappled with Nashua-Plainfield in the first match of the night. The score was 71-12 in favor of Nashua-Plain

at Jesup Tournament

Saturday the team traveled to Jesup for their first tournament of the year.

The young Pirate team was able to place third overall and were only a few points from coming in second. The tournament was won by NHTV (New Hampton, Turkey Valley) with 235 points. Jesup was second with 206; Postville, third with 198; Riceville, fourth with 177; AGWSR, fifth with 120; West Branch, sixth with 102 and Central Elkader, seventh with 48 points.

Earning second place for the Pirates were Uvaldo Camarillo at120 lbs, Isaac Steffans at 220 lbs, and Roberto Lopez at 285 lbs.

The next Varsity tournament will be held Saturday, December 9 at Nashua-Plainfield beginning at 9 a.m.

The JV Meet scheduled for Monday, December 11 at Postville has been cancelled.
