Pirates host conference wrestling meet as Caleb Hughes is the 120 pound champion

The Pirates hosted the Upper Iowa Conference wrestling meet in the Postville gym Saturday with eight teams participating. The meet was dominated by powerhouse MFL MarMac who crowned five champions and scored 236.5 points. They had a wrestler in all 13 weight classes.

The Pirates finished in fifth place with 98 points. Caleb Hughes was a champion at 120 pounds.

Team totals are as follows: Team scores — 1) MFL MarMac 236 ½ (5 champions); 2) North Fayette Valley 197 (3); 3) South Winneshiek 183 ½ (3); 4) Riceville 110 (1); 5) Postville 98 (1); 6) Clayton Ridge 49; 7) Tripoli 44 (1); 8) Central 30.

The sectional meet is scheduled for Saturday in the MFL MarMac gym in Monona. Mueller said, “It would be awesome to have a crowd there cheering for the guys as they try to qualify for the district meet.” 

Mueller also expressed appreciation to everyone who helped with the Little Pirate Tournament and the Conference Meets this past weekend.
