Pirates fall to New Hampton in final regular season game; host South Winn in first round of tournament

The Pirates played their last regular season game at home last Thursday against New Hampton. New Hampton, a nonconference foe, got off to a fast start and never looked back. After taking a 41-15 halftime lead, the visitors would end up beating the Pirates 73-57. Coach Sass said, “We started slow and didn’t move the very well on defense and turnovers were a huge problem. We didn’t pressure their passers enough either.”

After the game Sass said, “Our offense was good in the second half. The first half we probably had more turnovers the shot attempts, but we took better care of the ball in the second half and were able to do some good things attacking the basket on offense. We outscored them 42-32 in the second half.”

Boys District Basketball begins Thursday, February 15 at 6:30 p.m. in Postville with Riceville vs. Turkey Valley followed by Postville vs. South Winn at 8 p.m.
