Pirates defeat Clayton Ridge at home and fall to Starmont on the road

Clayton Ridge

The basketball season resumed after the holiday break when the Pirates hosted Clayton Ridge January 9.

About their first game after a two-week break, Coach Mike Sass said, “The game started out well for us as we came out and played well and were able to get a bit of a lead.”

The Pirates were able to get off to a 14-6 first quarter lead and would build the lead to 27-18 at the half and would close the game out with a 58-42 win.

Starmont

Friday night the team traveled to Starmont where things did not get off to a good start.

Coach Sass said, “We are usually able to get a bit of an early lead, and we were not able to do that in this one.”

The Pirates were down by one, 22-23 at the half and continued to play from behind in the second half as they fell 56-48.

Dehning had 15 points including three shots from beyond the arc. Also in double digits, Jacobson had 13 and Wettleson eleven. Bacon added four and Loera had one three point bucket.

After hosting MFL MarMac on Tuesday night, the Pirates participate in a shoot out at Wapsie Valley Saturday, January 20.
