Northeast Iowa RC & D of Postville announces October 3 open house

Residents of Postville will have the opportunity to share their vision for the future of the city at a Community Planning Open House Tuesday, October 3 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the YMCA Community Room.

The goal of the planning process is to increase private and public investment by creating a community vision for development, improvements, and infrastructure that creates value for residents, businesses, and property owners.  Northeast Iowa Resource Conservation and Development, Inc. is leading the planning effort, which is focused on the railroad corridor and downtown Postville. Members of the planning steering committee, as well as RC&D staff, will be present to speak with residents about the planning process and potential projects that could benefit the community.

“We have seen how everyone can come together for a great event like RAGBRAI, and it’s important for community members to keep that momentum so we can create a vision for what kind of community we want Postville to be,” says RC&D Project Coordinator Nathan Thompson. “This is a great opportunity to be involved in shaping the future of our town, and build on the assets that previous community leaders have left, like Hall Roberts’ Park, the recreational trail, and Turner Hall.”

Postville residents are encouraged to bring their ideas for community improvements, including recreational facilities, trails, business development, downtown improvements, and housing, to the open house.

At the open house, residents will have the opportunity to learn more about the planning area, the planning process, and potential projects that could be included in the plan and projects already underway in Postville.  Most importantly, residents can choose between different priorities for the plan, and vote for specific project ideas that they would like to see implemented in Postville.  “It’s critical to create a plan that reflects the values and priorities of the residents of Postville,” says Thompson.  “Our goal is for this plan to be a guiding document for investment in projects and infrastructure that will help shape this community for the next generation.”

Residents who are unable to attend are encouraged to contact Northeast Iowa RC&D using the information below or on social media by searching for “Postville Planning.”

Anyone with questions is encouraged to call or email Project Coordinator Nathan Thompson at (563) 864-7112 or nathan@northeastiowarcd.org, or stop by the Northeast Iowa RC&D office at 101 E. Greene St. in Postville during working hours.
