Matt Ellis assumes position as Postville Chief of Police

Matt Ellis, who took over as the Postville Chief of Police June 1, has been a full time employee of the department since 2017. However, a long-time law enforcement and conservation professional, Matt began working  part-time for the Postville Police Department in 2010.

Born and raised in Elgin, Iowa, Matt is a 1994 graduate of Valley High School. He also holds an associate’s degree from Kirkwood Community College and a Bachelor’s Degree from Upper Iowa University.

Ellis has been a Certified Law Enforcement officer since 1999.

He explained, “I was employed as a Fayette County Conservation and Park officer for 15 years.”

Ellis said he plans to work closely with the school and will be attending the D.A.R.E. academy this fall and also hopes to implement other programs with the school. 

As he begins his stint as Chief of Police, Matt is looking forward to working with the community to provide   protection and safety for the community of Postville. In closing he said, “I encourage residents to call the station at (563) 864-3234 with any concerns they might have. We will do our best to investigate all matters.”
