Mason City Newman strong running game is too much for the Pirates as they fall 42-7

The Pirates had another long road trip last Friday night as their schedule took them to Mason City to play Newman Catholic. With Newman getting off to a fast start on the ground, the Pirates were never able to recover and ended up losing by a score of 42-7.

With their powerful running game, and the Pirates unable to contain their running backs, Newman had several big plays which led to scores.

They used a jet sweep and trap to build a big lead in the first quarter.

Commenting on the fact that Starmont has forfeited their game against the Pirates this week, he said, “We won’t play this Friday and the kids are disappointed, but it will give us some time to work on new wrinkles for the North Tama and Nashua-Plainfield games. Thanks to the parents who provided food after the game and to Cindy Schultz for the subs for the trip to Newman. The community support is great and the coaches and team appreciate everything”
