La Canasta continues to expand as they offer a wide-variety of products for the entire community

La Canasta Market has been located on Greene Street in downtown Postville for over a decade; however, until recently they have carried mostly products that are staples in the Latino culture. Laura and Gustavo Moncada and their children, who have lived in Postville for many years, have worked hard to expand their inventory since Quillin’s Grocery Store closed earlier this year.

Laura said, “We were asked by several people to carry more products that “American” people use and we are doing our best to bring them what they want and like. We have been buying the brands they are used to.”

Among the products that people approached Laura about were fresh fruits and vegetable and dairy products.

She noted, “The bread comes on a truck from Des Moines and is always very fresh. We also get fresh rolls and pastries.”

Store hours are also set up to be convenient for those who need to shop during the evening and on weekends. The store is open from noon to 9:30 p.m. on Mondays and Tuesday through Sunday from 9:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.
