Housing rehabilitation grant to assist low to moderate income households with home renovations

Mayor Leigh Rekow and Council Members Mary Engstrom and Donald Miller, all of whom were reelected at the November election, were sworn in to their respective positions at the council meeting, Monday, December 11. Mayor Pro-Tem Ross Malcom administered the oath of office. Mayor Rekow administered the oath of office to City Clerk Darcy Radloff and Treasurer Darci Engelhardt.

A public hearing was held on the submittal of an application for a Community Development Block Grant from the Iowa Economic Development Authority funding for the City of Postville. The City proposed assisting low to moderate income households with rehabilitation of their homes. The intent is to target those living in homes considered to be in deteriorated condition. 71.17% of Postville’s population is considered to be low to moderate income persons. It is expected that these funds will benefit six homes of the above stated population.

McKenzie Sebastian and Elfego Marroquin were approved for membership in the Postville Fire Department.
