First quarter of 2017 is reviewed with items from January, February and March highlighted

(Editor’s note: As 2017 comes to a close, we once again review the year’s highlights as reported in the Herald. Today we look at the happenings of January, February and March.)

January

At the regular meeting of the Board of Education the early retirement policy was reviewed. Teachers must be at least 55 years of age and have served at least 15 consecutive years in the district. The possibility of creating a junior kindergarten was also proposed.

The winner of the Postville Clermont Knights of Columbus snowblower was John Schlee of Postville.

February

Dillon Schlee, PHS class of 2011, who now resides in Los Angeles, is training for the Los Angeles Marathon

Justin Knutson of Decorah was the winner of the Greater Midwest Auctioneer Championship held at the Decorah Sales Commission recently.

March

During Random Acts of Kindness Week staff and students at Postville Schools helped raise money for the Grotegut family who lost their home to a fire in February.

Jaci Burns is the new manager at Quillin’s Grocery Store in Postville. Although she has been working from home for years, she finds the interaction with the public to be rewarding.
