In an evenly matched game, the Pirates fall to Ed-Co in two over times, 6-0

With the weather less than cooperative, it was decided to move the start time of the Postville vs Ed-Co football game  last Friday night from 7 p.m. to 6 p.m. in hopes of avoiding downpours, thunder and lightning. Unfortunately, just as the teams were about ready to take the field, lightning caused a 30 minute delay. With both the Pirates and the Vikings looking for their first win, the two teams appeared to be very evenly matched. Following four full quarters on the gridiron, the score was still tied at 0-0. The Vikings would finally score in the second overtime to take the game 6-0.

The Pirates received the opening kick-off and were unable to get a fresh set of downs. Willy Martinez punted the ball on fourth and eight and Ed-Co took over on the their own 35. A holding penalty would move the ball back to their own 25. After moving the ball to midfield and facing third and three, Owen Jacobson sacked the Viking quarterback.

Forced to punt, Willy Martinez returned the ball back to the 40 yard line as he had a 26 yard return. Steffans ran for a first down and on the next drive, facing third and four, Elfego Marroquin ran for the first down to the 40 yard line. Owen Jacobson caught a Steffans pass to the 25 yard line. The drive continued to the nine yard line where the Pirates faced fourth and four. An incomplete pass in the endzone, turned the ball over on downs to the Vikings.
