Dean and Laurel Ohloff honored to be named Hometown Celebration Grand Marshals

Laurel and Dean Ohloff, who have spent their entire married lives in Postville, were honored to be named the Grand Marshals of this year’s Hometown Celebration Parade last Friday night.

The couple has spent their entire married lives in Postville and are very proud of their hometown.

Dean grew up on a farm south of Frankville, and attended Postville Community Schools from kindergarten through his graduation in 1969.

Laurel was born in Postville and attended school here until the sixth grade. After her father’s death, she moved with her family to Decorah so her mother could finish her education at Luther.

The couple married in an outdoor ceremony at the home of her aunt and uncle, Don and DeElta Heins, on August 10, 1979. Laurel retired this spring after teaching 43 years in the Postville Community School District.

About the experience of being named Grand Marshals of Postville’s Hometown Parade, Dean and Laurel are very humbled.

Dean commented, “Thanks to the committee for thinking of us for this honor.  It has been a pleasure to associate with so many wonderful people over the years.”

And in closing, Laurel added, “I, too, would like to thank the committee for thinking that we are worthy of this honor.  There are many, many worthy people in this community who deserve this honor.”
