Council discusses First Time Homebuyer program and the impounding of junked cars

Andy Kelleher, who is a candidate for the Iowa House of Representatives, District 56, was present at the Postville City Council Meeting October 9. He introduced himself to the Council and asked if the Council had any concerns. Among the concerns mentioned were funding for roads, water quality, revitalization of the downtown corridor and promotion of agricultural  industry.

Lori Brockway of Upper Explorerland Regional Planning Commission (UERPC) informed the Council of funding that recently became available through the Iowa Finance Authority First Time Homebuyer Program. She said, “The City application would require a cash match or $2,000 per home.”

The Council approved a motion authorizing the submission of a HOME application to the Iowa Finance Authority by UERPC  for five home buyers in the City of Postville.

The Council discussed the impounding of junked cars. It was noted that with the construction of the wastewater treatment plant, the City impound lot is no longer in existence. Mayor Rekow noted that in researching the policies of other similarly-sized cities, he learned that they contract a removal service.
